The genesis of the Mirage 2000 follows on from the development of the last experimental prototypes of the Avions Marcel Dassault, particularly the Mirage 4000. The Mirage 2000, whose first prototype flew in 1978, has been the backbone of French combat aviation since 1984, with five different versions implemented by the French Air Force. These versions of the Mirage 2000 have been used for many types of missions, both on national territory and in numerous exercises and external theatres of operations.
