The advent of the revolutionary Honda CB 750 opens the door to the conquest of roads and paths, traveled by these mixed road/off-road machines which will transform the use of motorcycles. This is the beginning of the “postclassical” period of motorcycling, in the 1970s.
Japanese manufacturers invent the escape-adventure motorcycle, inspired by the great American desert spaces: the trail. At the same time, a line of models aimed at young bikers was then marketed. And, of course, the Paris-Dakar adventure reveals the iconic raid motorcycle: the Yamaha 500 XT. On the tarmac side, we find the escape motorcycle in the reliable and powerful high-performance road models: Suzuki GT, Honda CB 450, Yamaha RD… without forgetting the beautiful Motobécane-Motoconfort. It was also the era of legendary motorcycles such as the Münch Mammut, an extravagant motorcycle in terms of its power, its mass and its rarity.
Find throughout this work quotes taken from the specialized press of the time and interviews with motorcycle enthusiasts, as well as a very rich and varied iconography: nearly 600 photos, including 380 photos of amateurs and period illustrations/documents.
