The genesis of the Mirage 2000 follows on from the development of the last experimental prototypes of the Avions Marcel Dassault, particularly the Mirage 4000. The Mirage 2000, whose first prototype flew in 1978, has been the backbone of French combat aviation since 1984, with five different versions implemented by the French Air Force. These versions of the Mirage 2000 have been used for many types of missions, both on national territory and in numerous exercises and external theatres of operations.
Based on the geopolitical and military context of the different periods concerned, the evolution of strategic air doctrines, the needs of the Air Force and the demands of the State, this reference book brings together and retraces the development and history of the Mirage 2000 versions in the Air Force with their genesis, history, detailed technical design, use, operational career and squadrons of assignment, based on a large number of unpublished photos and illustrations.
