The book opens with a surprising survey: in the spring of 2000, the luxury car that most French people dream of is called ... Peugeot 406 Coupé! Surprising, really? Not so much. The excellent road qualities of the 406 saloon have been retained and even improved; the new, state-of-the-art engine is remarkable; the interior fittings are of a level not often seen in French production at the time; and above all, the line of its bodywork, due to the particularly inspired pencil of the teams of the Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, a world reference, is enough to make all the other car manufacturers green with envy.

All aspects of this model are examined here, including the all too rare special series or, even less well known, the often victorious participations in numerous automobile competitions. Thanks to the help provided by the two major French clubs that bring together the happy owners, Philippe Coignard has been able to illustrate this book with a beautiful iconography that brings out the aesthetic emotion felt in front of a work of art.

Philippe Coignard has been fascinated by everything to do with cars since childhood, yet he became a hospital director for good reason. For nearly forty years, his profession allowed him to discover a good part of France. Now retired, he can devote more time to the field that has always interested him, the automobile.

After a first essay on the industrial adventure of the Facel-Véga, he published a richly documented and illustrated book by E-T-A-I in 2014, retracing a century of motorsport at Peugeot.
